Danielle M. Aguirre
Paul, Weiss Associate, Litigation
University of Pennsylvania Law School, 2002

“I had a great summer at Paul, Weiss.
I was surprised by how much responsibility I had and how much control I actually had over what I got to do. I had the opportunity to work on some really interesting matters and even though I knew that I wanted to be a litigator, I made sure to work on cases in every department, from corporate to bankruptcy to real estate. Having that opportunity helped me realize that litigation was for me and enabled me to understand different aspects of the law at an early point in my career.”

Summer Associate Program

Assigning: You'll be able to customize your summer associate experience — request work from one department exclusively or from a variety of departments. You have a say in how you spend your summer with us.

Team Structure: You’ll be assigned to a team of partners, counsel and associates who share your legal and professional interests; these lawyers will introduce you to others at the firm and will help ease your transition from law student to practicing lawyer.

Introductory Workshops: You’ll be taught research and writing skills, effective communication skills and the nuts and bolts of how to handle assignments. This includes the beginnings of legal skills training and candid conversations with more experienced associates on what life at the firm is really like.

Legal Seminars: By analyzing specific issues and matters through case studies and hypotheticals, you’ll be introduced to big-picture aspects of litigation and transactions.

Partner Mentors: An individual partner will serve as your mentor for the summer. This partner helps you select interesting and engaging work, where you’ll participate in the major events involved in your assigned cases or transactions, such as depositions, negotiations and closings.

Social Events: A variety of social events, from team cooking classes to Broadway shows and art tours, provide opportunities for you to get acquainted with your fellow summers, associates, counsel and partners in informal settings.

Summer Associate Class Statistics: Our 2008 summer class is comprised of 111 law students from 29 law schools. Below is a breakdown of the number of candidates by law school.
