WHERE DOES PAUL, WEISS RECRUIT?
We recruit at a wide range of schools and job fairs throughout the United States and Canada. If your law school is not listed, please send your cover letter, resume and law school transcript to the attention of our chief recruitment officer, . You will hear back from us within two to three weeks. 

WHAT IS THE FIRM’S STANCE ON PRO BONO WORK?
Paul, Weiss views pro bono work as a duty and an honor, and we encourage associates to become involved in the issues and causes that matter most to them. Pro bono work is valued equally with time spent on billable matters.

DO ASSOCIATES RECEIVE A BONUS FOR CLERKING?
Yes.  Paul, Weiss lawyers who join the firm after completing a judicial clerkship will receive a bonus of $50,000. Individuals who have completed a clerkship of two years or more, or have completed two or more years of clerkships, will receive a $70,000 bonus.

IF I RECEIVE A PERMANENT OFFER BUT PLAN TO CLERK AFTER GRADUATION, WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO JOIN THE FIRM?
Yes. We view a judicial clerkship as an excellent opportunity for associates. Offers for employment with the firm remain open until the end of a clerkship. 

I UNDERSTAND THAT CORPORATE ASSOCIATES WORK AS GENERALISTS FOR THE FIRST TWO YEARS AT PAUL, WEISS.  HOW DOES THAT WORK?
During their first two years, corporate associates have the opportunity to work on matters in each of our corporate practice areas, giving them the chance to acquire skills in a broad range of areas. When these two unassigned years are over, corporate associates can enter a particular practice group based on their area of interest.

WHAT KINDS OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAMS DOES THE FIRM OFFER?
Paul, Weiss provides its lawyers with many innovative training and development opportunities. Upon arriving at the firm, each associate develops a personal career development planning and a training curriculum that tracks their developmental milestones and needs. The firm offers a wide array of training programs, including workshops on skills development as well as conferences for mid-level associates that offer management skills training.  As an accredited CLE provider in New York, we are able to offer our lawyers the convenience of fulfilling their CLE requirements in-house.

IS THERE A MINIMUM BILLABLE HOUR REQUIREMENT?
There is no minimum billable hours requirement for our lawyers, and billable hours are not considered when determining salary or bonuses.

ARE THERE INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ASSOCIATES?
There are opportunities for associates to work in our international offices on a case-by-case basis. For example associates are sometimes posted overseas for short-term stints of three months or more, as required by specific client projects. Our international offices hire summer associates on an as-needed basis, and interested summer associates have the opportunity to rotate to our other offices as part of their summer experience.
 
DOES PAUL, WEISS HAVE A FLEX-TIME POLICY?
Yes.  Our alternative work schedule program is open to every lawyer at any point in his or her career.  There is no waiting period to be eligible for the program, nor is it limited to lawyers with child care responsibilities. 

WHAT ARE PAUL, WEISS’ EFFORTS IN DIVERSITY?

CAN I MAKE A REQUEST TO WORK FOR A SPECIFIC GROUP DURING THE SUMMER?
Yes.  Summer associates are assigned work from the departments in which they want to work. There is no rotation system – as a summer associate, it would be completely up to you to decide what type of work you would like to experience during the summer. 

DO SUMMER ASSOCIATES HAVE A MENTOR?
Yes. Every summer associate is matched with a partner as well as an associate mentor. 

DOES THE FIRM OFFER TRAINING PROGRAMS DESIGNED FOR SUMMER ASSOCIATES?
Yes. Our summer associates have the opportunity to participate in a varied and challenging series of educational programs that introduce them to various aspects of our different practice groups. Summer associates are also given many opportunities to work with the firm’s writing coach. And in addition to our formal training programs, summer associates do much of their learning on-the-job while working on assignments with lawyers.

DOES PAUL, WEISS OFFER A PARENTAL LEAVE PACKAGE?
Yes. Associates in the New York and Washington offices are provided a generous parental leave package that includes up to 18 weeks paid leave for new parents, combining a variety of parental, adoption, primary caregiver and disability leaves, as applicable.
