Michael Hong
Corporate Associate
The first part of your training at Paul, Weiss will involve attending various presentations moderated by partners, senior associates and counsel. As a junior associate, you’ll be exposed to a number of general topics at first that are designed to give you the building blocks of legal knowledge. In the corporate department, for example, you'll learn about closings, forming legal entities, drafting, due diligence, etc. — all the stuff they didn't teach you in law school! The topics covered, however, aren't just legal topics — they include courses on how to deal with conflict, time management and your professional responsibilities — skills intended to make you not only a better lawyer, but a better provider of client service as well.
The second part of your training here will involve programs put together by practice groups themselves. As an M&A and investment management associate, I’ve been trained by counsel, associates and knowledge management staff whose sole task is to help keep the rest of us up-to-date on changes and developments in the law. Additionally, there’s a lot of crossover between training programs — lawyers from another group or department may give you a presentation about issues relevant to your practice, to help you understand and enrich your work.
